Wood Rot Repair
South Florida is brutal on exterior wood. Rain, sun, salt air, and year-round humidity — every house with wood trim has rot somewhere. Most homeowners don’t find it until it’s already spread, because by then it’s soft to the touch and the paint has started to bubble. Catching it early is the difference between a one-day repair and a much bigger project. If you’re not sure, it’s worth having it looked at.
What’s included
- Assessment with a probe test to find the true extent of the rot
- Removal of all rotted material — no painting over soft wood
- Replacement with primed lumber, or PVC trim where moisture exposure is constant (fascia, exterior window sills, garage door casing)
- Prime coat on all new wood
- Two coats of exterior paint matched to the existing color
Common situations we handle
- Fascia board rot at the gutter line
- Garage door trim rot along the sides or top
- Sliding-door frame rot at the bottom track — very common in South Florida
- Window sill rot from failed caulk or flashing
- Soffit rot from a leaking or clogged gutter
- Deck post-bottom rot at the concrete connection
If the rot has reached structural framing — load-bearing members, rim joists, structural headers — that’s beyond handyman scope. Joel will tell you straight and can route to ADL Construction if it’s a bigger project.
Most surface-level rot repairs are a half-day to full-day job depending on how many sections need replacement.
